The Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife’s Hunter Education Course is more than a “gun safety” class. The basic mandatory course consists of classroom instruction. Each course is taught by a trained, certified volunteer instructor according to statewide standards. The fee for the course is $10.00/per person; collected the first night and covers the following topics:
Total Course = 12 Hours
- Proper Handling
- Rifle and Shotgun
- Survival/First Aid
- Hunter Responsibility
- Map and Compass
- Landowner Relations
- Time as Needed in Course
Students are provided with a course handbook, outdoor survival information, and additional handouts. Courses involve lectures and demonstrations by instructors, homework, field experiences and a final written exam. The minimum course length is 12 hours, although many will average more. You must attend every day of the class in order to receive your certificate.
This is a HOME STUDY course. It includes classroom, fieldwork and studying with workbook completion at home. A survival kit is also required to receive certification. The course begins with one 3-hour night on March 30, 2016 from 6PM – 9 PM at the Nezinscot Masonic Lodge #101 in Turner. ( 92 Weston Road Turner, Maine 04282 ). The second class occurs on Saturday April 9TH from 8AM-4PM at the same location. You must attend every day of the class in order to receive your certificate.
